Lost Maples SNA 1999

The hills were alive with the color of fall

I've been wanting to get down to Lost Maples SNA (State Natural Area) for years. Well we finally made in November '99.

The bigtooth sugar Maple  treeswere just beginning to turn color.

This was taken at the ponds about a mile up the West trail. It's a beautiful place where Can creek widens out at a natural damn. The West trail is easy walking up to here.

Strolling on the East Trail

This  was taken on the East trail near where it joins the "Maple" trail. This seems to be the area for most of the color at the moment, and is easy walking too.

Sometimes you just have to stop and soak it all up. This sure is a pretty place. I know I'm going to have to come back. Jennifer caught me "contemplating" it all along the East trail.

I was just soaking in the beauty

Angie and Jennifer on the "Maple" Trail

We walked along the "Maple" trail and then a mile or so along the East trail before heading back to "camp". This seems to be where most of the early color is located.

The East trail eventually joins the West trail at the ponds.
