Alice also sent along this picture of Carol relaxing with a book on last year's cruise.

Peggy Thomas Rushing

In the process of "chasing dead folks", AKA genealogy, I ran into an old high school friend, Peggy Thomas, who is now Peggy Thomas Rushing. We haven't met up in person yet, but she sent along this recent picture of herself.

One evening in June, 2003 while I was staying in Dyer, I stopped by the local "Toot 'N Tell It" eating establishment for dinner and whom should I meet but a couple of old high school friends, Melvin and Shirley Pipkin. They're both looking great as you can see. Melvin's working at the Arsenal in Milan and Shirley works at city hall. Their biggest interest at the moment is grand kids, and they claim to be thinking seriously of retirement.

It was great getting to see them, and thanks for the meal, Melvin!

Mother and I

Natalee insisted on taking a picture of mother and I on the Thanksgiving 2002 visit. She even managed to talk mother into it. None of us realized that she was going to be having a major overhaul with bypass surgery, heart valve replacement, etc. in a few short months.

Nathan Reed provided this picture of cousins Jessica, Beth, and Cady Griffin taken at a Rone family reunion in December 2002.

School friends - Jim Harrison and Alice Ball McCutcheon

A couple of days after Thanksgiving 2002, Angie and I drove on up to Paris, TN to visit with one of my good friends from high school days in Dyer, Alice Ball McCutcheon. We just about managed to catch up on some of what's been happening since we last were together some 40 years or so ago. We both agreed that neither one of us had changed a bit while all the rest of you are getting old!

Thanksgiving 2002:

We had just seen the latest Harry Potter movie right before we left for Tennessee, and we picked up a "Wizard's Hat" for Samuel. Natalee decided she would try it on for size.

All you kids in the library had better be on your best behavior or she's liable to turn you into a toad or something with that magic wand and wizard's hat!

Joe Reed and Jackie Finch

While we were home for Thanksgiving 2002, Joe Reed arranged for me to visit "Bucksnort" cemetery where my 3rd great-grandparents are buried. The cemetery is on a wooded hill in the middle of a field owned by Jackie Finch.

Joe arranged a meeting with Jackie who was most helpful to us in finding the cemetery and the graves I was seeking. I snapped this picture of Joe and Jackie shortly afterwards.

In the summer of 2002, we brought Samuel Reed back to Richardson with us to spend a week or so. While here, he got to go to the Mesquite Rodeo along with our neighbor, Alex Flores. Turns out that Alex and his mother had never been to a rodeo either. After the regular performance was over, we stayed and watched additional competitors in calf roping. Samuel and Alex got a real ringside seat for this part.

L-R: Myself, Jane, Angie, & Bill Harrison, Sherry & Earl Ray Pitt

All you folks that said us Broad Street kids from Dyer would wind up in prison some day were right!

Earl Ray and Sherry Pitt were visiting his sister Jane Harrison and Bill Memorial day weekend. Jane invited us to meet them for dinner at "The Prison" restaurant in McKinney. Had a great time and some good chow.

Earl is in Texas to visit some old friends from his cowboying days.
