Cruising the
Caribbean After Puerto Rico, we headed to the Virgin Islands. |
Here's another view of the Centrum from the purser's desk where we're buying tickets for a shore excursion to St. Johns. We'll be arriving at St. Thomas, American Virgin Islands the next morning. The Virgin Islands are just a short distance East of Puerto Rico. St. Johns is about a 30 minute ferry ride from the docks at St. Thomas. |
St. Johns tour busses are pretty typical of what you find in the Caribbean. Actually it's a Chevrolet truck fitted with bench seats and a canopy to keep the sun off. Tourism is about the only industry, and they go out of their way to make the tourists happy enough to want to come back. Here we are stopped at an abandoned sugar plantation in the National park. |
This beach is pretty typical of those found on St Johns and St Thomas. Absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately we didn't have time to go to the beach and enjoy it. |
With Charlotte-Amalie in the background, Angie and I are enjoying breakfast in the Windjammer cafe and the view of the harbor. Definitely one of the prettiest places we docked. |
Clint Holmes was one of the name acts at the theater while we were on board. We enjoyed his show enough that we bought one of his CDs. Here he poses for a picture with us just after autographing it. |
One evening at dinner I was attacked by vicious pirates. Actually it turned out that it was the photography crew in costume out drumming up business. That cutlass at my throat was powerful enough persuasion that I agreed to buy this picture. |
Kelly took this picture of our table with our waiter and the headwaiter. That's why she's not in the picture!
Front row: Rhona, Angie, Jim. All in all, we had a great time on the cruise, and are looking forward to the next one. Anyone want to join us? |
