As we started our trip, I took a short detour at Waco, following Highway 6 East to visit Harrison, Texas.

I'm afraid there isn't much left to show it ever existed! Only this road sign and what appeared to be an abandoned "Harrison community center" served to mark the spot.

60 years old? Who? Me?

We first stopped by the home of the Dilleys to help Marion celebrate his 60th birthday. Somewhere around 1:00 a.m. he finally got around to opening his presents. The partying went on through most of the night. Who says we're getting too old for this?

The next day their daughter Tina came over from Austin to join us for Christmas Brunch at the Ft. Hood Officer's Club and an afternoon visit to Salado.

Salado stores decorated for Christmas

The old stagecoach stop town of Salado was all dolled up for the holidays. We did a lot of browsing and a little shopping while we were there.

One of the whimsical things that I couldn't resist taking a picture of was this "bicycle fence" along the road in Salado.

Unique!
